Wolf Study Comments

In an article in the Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition's Fall/Winter newsletter (click on “Newsletters” and read “Call of the Wild –U.P. Style”), we told you how the Department of Natural Resources has been trying to find ways to deal with what they termed “problem wolves,” animals which residents worried presented a threat to people, livestock and/or pets. Until February 21, 2006, the USDA is taking written public comments on the Environmental Assessment (EA) draft of the “Environmental Assessment for the Management of Wolf Conflicts and Depredating Wolves in Michigan.” According to the public notice issued by the USDA, this study “analyzes the potential environmental impacts of alternative strategies for the management of wolf predation on domestic animals, and the reduction of potential risks to human health and safety from wolves.”
